HOPE IN ACTION

My main focus as a cancer patient myself has to focus on the Battle first and foremost. The awareness and research are vital pieces of the puzzle BUT they take time, which if you are a upper GI cancer sufferer you normally don’t have - I say “time is not our friend” that’s just the sad truth.

As part of our BUGIC Foundation we created this acronym called “Raising the B.A.R” which stands for Battle, Awareness and Research. By “Raising the B.A.R” we will help individuals and their families through their cancer journey and focus on 3 main pillars - Battle, Awareness and Research. Collaborating with partner Foundations, Business, Government and Individuals together we will help those in need.

Late 2023 I was asked by Pancare if I could share my Biliary cancer journey on camera. I jumped at the chance so it might resinate with other cancer patients and their families and to hopefully make a difference. Below is what the Pancare team posted on their website and socials during Biliary cancer month in February 2024.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————58 year old Grant Rutley is a typical Aussie bloke who loves his family, his sport and a barbecue. The father of five and grandfather of four says his life was turned upside down just over three and a half years ago when he was diagnosed with a rare cancer called cholangiocarcinoma. At the time, doctors advised he had between six and nine months left to live.

“As I stand here today as a 3+year cancer patient, I cannot stress enough the importance of talking. Working though and finding your new normal. The sooner you connect with Pancare, the sooner you talk, the better off you will be. This is your journey and everyone is different.”
